Which tool is more accurate when it comes to Amazon sales data? Helium 10 or Jungle Scout?

Well, when it comes to precision, no Amazon product research tool offers data for child ASIN variants except Helium 10!

Unlike other Amazon seller research tools, which only aggregate data across variant ASINs and roll them up into the parent ASIN listing, Helium 10 provides estimates for the gross revenue and number of units sold for each child ASIN under a parent ASIN!

Let’s compare what this looks like in Helium 10’s X-ray within our Chrome extension vs. Jungle Scout’s browser extension.

When we search for “coffin shelf” on Amazon and open Jungle Scout’s extension, we can see two of our own products we sell here at Helium 10, but only the parent ASIN data is available for these two separate listings. There is no way to expand each parent ASIN row within the Jungle Scout extension to see more specific sales data for the variants contained within each listing.

However, when we search for the same phrase, “coffin shelf,” on Amazon and open Helium 10’s extension, we can expand the row containing the parent ASIN for our product (in this case, B07Z8HN212) to view two more rows with sales estimate data for each variant!

Helium 10's extension

In Helium 10’s extension, the “Parent Level Sales” column contains the approximate sum of all the ASIN sales estimates for each variant ASIN within the listing, including the parent ASIN itself. In the example above, you can see that one of our coffin shelf variants sells way more than the other two.

Why does this matter?

Well, if you’re using a tool like Jungle Scout, you can get a rough estimate of how well a product sells overall, but from my own experience as a seller, certain variants can have much higher demand than others, and you need to know how many of each one to order from your supplier to avoid stockouts or excess inventory.

The Problem with Parent ASIN Sales Estimates

Let’s say you’ve identified a good product opportunity where your competitors are selling a product that comes in three colors.

If you were to base your inventory decisions on just the Parent ASIN Sales estimate provided by other tools (which is often the bestselling, most popular variant within the listing), you could end up ordering too many units of slower-moving variants of the product and have less money to order more of the bestselling variations.

Helium 10: A Unique and Accurate Solution

Not only is Helium 10 the only Amazon product research tool that provides this level of detail, it’s also the most accurate when it comes to historic Amazon sales data.

Want proof? Let’s open the Profits tool in Helium 10 to see our real sales data for the same coffin shelves we sold in October 2024, when those two screenshots above were taken. The same three ASINs have been highlighted in red boxes, with the actual gross revenue and units sold highlighted in green for each one.

Helium 10's Profit filters

As you can see, Jungle Scout estimated that we were selling about 129 of these shelves each month and grossing $3,259 per month while Helium 10 estimated that we were selling about 82 units and grossing about $2,457 each month, which is way closer to what we actually sold in the month of October.

Other tools can give directional data about how sales are generally changing from month to month, but Helium 10’s estimates are by far the most accurate when it comes to real numbers.
